Guide
How to set up live/demo trading
Open one M5 – chart and attach the GerFX Crypto Maniac to it.
Choose the correct risk settings for your own risk profile. Scroll down to “How to calculate the risk”, for further help.
There are 6 different auto settings, which can be used at the same time. It can trade multiple sets from one chart.
Current recommended settings are the default settings. Additionally, we recommend to use a hedging account type (usually the default type at the most brokers).
Recommended min. deposit size is 4.000 USD or equivalent with the default settings (0.25% percentage risk)
In case you want to use the Auto GMT calculation, you need to add a web request URL:
http://fxdata.cc
http://backup.fxdata.cc
This can be done inside of MetaTrader (Tools -> Options -> Expert Advisors -> Allow WebRequests for listed URL)
How to calculate the risk
The backtests are usually done with a percentage risk of 0.25%. This means that you have to look at the relative drawdown, not the fixed one.
Depending on the data set we use, the maximum drawdown with the default risk (percentage risk of 0.25% and all 6 sets together) is about 23-26%
This mean that the theoretical drawdown based on backtest data is about (more or less) 1% for each 0.01% percentage risk.
There is never any guarantee that the future drawdown will be less than the historical one. Therefore, please don’t overrisk your account.
How to backtest
The main challange for good tick based backtests with BTCUSD is the limitation of high quality tick data sets. Most of the free data sets available we checked have high spreads in the past or missing datas. Additionally it seems that some brokers had up to 10x the spreads we got nowadays a few years ago or have charged commissions, which most broker don’t to nowadays.
After checking several data sets, the best we found are:
– FXOpen using TDS 2.0 in MT4
– IC Markets in MT5
In case you would like to replicate our backtests, please update the maximum lots and volume in your MetaTrader Settings.
In MetaTrader 4 you will find the “Maximum lots” settings inside the TDS settings. In MetaTrader 5 you need to upper the maximum lot and volume inside the symbol settings, that you can access in the strategy tester. We are using 10000 (or above) to avoid a limitation in the order filling during the test
